Pet Birthday Card
Card Creation Summary: Dog-Inspired Fan Design
This card was crafted for a friend and features a striking layered design centred around a dog’s face. The front began with a white card base, into which I carefully cut the dog’s face. Then, using a matching black cut out of the same image, I inlaid it seamlessly into the white space—tricky to align, but I nailed it in one go!
Inside, the card opens to reveal a fan-like structure made up of eight sections, each adorned with black-and-white monograms of the dog breed that I sourced online. These discs create a dynamic, almost pop-up effect, giving the card a sense of movement and depth.
Behind the fan, if you look closely, you’ll spot the original white dog face that was removed from the front. Rather than discard it, I repurposed it onto a soft pink background inside the card, which adds a gentle contrast and ties the design together beautifully.
While pop-up cards can be challenging—especially when it comes to writing space—this one allows for a message on the back, as many of my designs do. It’s a versatile format that can be adapted for any occasion, and I’m really pleased with how effective and visually engaging it turned out.
